In 1938, the construction of a bathing facility on Obernfelder Allee was considered for the first time, but was not pursued at first due to the war. It was not until a few years after the end of the war that planning was resumed. On July 4, 1953, the "Badeanstalt Lübbecke" was inaugurated. The heated pool had a 50-meter pool with six lanes and with one-, three-, five-, seven-and-a-half- and ten-meter diving towers. In 1963, the West German championships in high diving were held here. The eastern quarter of the pool was shallower and thus also suitable for non-swimmers. Next to it was a smaller paddling pool. Together with around 8,000 square meters of sunbathing lawns and areas for games and sports, the site covered about the area of one and a half soccer fields. The outdoor pool was closed in 2002.
